Dealing with Vulnerable People Policy
Purpose: To ensure that all interactions with vulnerable individuals are handled with sensitivity,
respect, and professionalism.
Scope: This policy applies to all employees, volunteers, and contractors who interact with vulnerable
people in the course of their work.
Definitions:
• Vulnerable People: Individuals who are at greater risk of harm or exploitation due to factors
such as age, disability, illness, or social circumstances.
Procedure:
1. Identification: Recognise and identify individuals who may be considered vulnerable.
2. Training: Ensure all staff receive training on how to interact with vulnerable individuals,
including recognizing signs of distress or abuse.
3. Communication: Use clear, respectful, and compassionate language. Adapt communication
methods to the individual’s needs.
4. Support: Provide appropriate support and accommodations, such as accessible formats or
additional assistance.
5. Reporting: Report any concerns about the welfare of vulnerable individuals to the
designated safeguarding officer.
6. Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality regarding the individual’s situation, sharing
information only on a need-to-know basis.
Responsibilities:
• Managers: Ensure compliance with the policy and provide ongoing training.
• Staff: Adhere to the guidelines and report any issues.
Review: This policy will be reviewed annually or as needed.
